Dutch tidbits – spring 2014

From Dutch news.

Bike parking to be expanded in Amsterdam.

A canal house is being created using a 3D printer and is open to visitors.

Problems with high-speed rail service continues, but slow trains are still in service between A’dam and Breda.

Just a slightly interesting item about creating “passports” for Dutch flower bulbs. I figure that if they can pass muster for importation into the USA, they’re clean enough for the rest of the planet.

This is a wild one – The Rijksmuseum has recently bought the death mask of a master forger. Ummm… are they sure it’s authentic? What a hoot if it turned out to be bogus! (And I got a big kick from the last line in the article).

tidbits of UK travel news

From the London Independent.  A (very) modest hotel in Wales scores for customer service. Even thrifty old me could afford to stay here! I wonder how far in advance one needs to book? And here are a few ideas for celebrating World Whisky Month – before it’s too late!

From the NY Times.  A court has decided that Richard III’s remains should be placed in Leicester Cathedral, rather than in York. The Leicester Cathedral website has set out proposals for how his final resting place will be constructed, but there may be more coming from them soon, now that they’ve “won the toss”.

From Oxford Mail. A new Centre for Islamic Studies is coming to Oxford – a different flavor of a dreaming spire.

London Tube closures for bank holiday weekend of 24-26 May 2014

I apologize for not posting Tube closure news for the past two weekends. Other things to do and have been out of town. I’m sure nobody got stranded because of it.

Here are this weekend’s Tube closures. Everything except for individual ongoing station issues are outside the bottle of the Circle Line.

Latimer Rd station is closed thru this Monday

Hammersmith/City line – Moorgate to Barking

Victoria line – Highbury & Islington to Walthamstow Central

District line – Aldgate East to Upminster

Jubilee line – late 11 am opening, Sunday only – Waterloo to Finchley Road

London Tramlink – Addiscombe to Beckenham Junction/Elmers End closed from Saturday, 24th through Sunday week on 1 June.

London Overground – all w/e – Highbury & Islington to Clapham Junction/ New Cross /New Cross Gate. Also Sydenham to West Croydon closed all w.e. On Sunday – New Cross Gate to Crystal Palace (stops running from 19.30 on Saturday). Also on Sunday – no service between Queen’s Park and Watford Junction. Service between Euston and Queen’s Park will start late on Sunday (8.45).

Information on road disruptions can be found on a new status update page by TfL.

There will be a fair amount of snarl resulting from a 10K race that starts and ends at the Mall. Tower Bridge opens for scheduled activity at 12.35 and 13.15. The feature I like about this update page is the interactive map. Hover above any of the yellow exclamation points to read about the issue and the area affected. In this category, perhaps aggravated by the holiday, disruptions are too numerous to list. I can’t tell which would be most useful, so again – click on the status update link above.

Reminders –

Embankment – Bakerloo and Northern line trains not stopping until November 2014 due to escalator replacements.

Covent Garden – Exit only until mid-November 2014. Also, on Saturdays and Sundays, westbound trains not stopping while lifts are replaced.

Bond Street – Central line trains not stopping until early June. Station upgrades in progress.

Gloucester Road – no Piccadilly service until mid-December while the lifts are replaced.

Tchin-tchin! – Paris Beer Week 2014 is coming

From the Paris info website – As we say in New England – “Getcha beeah heeah”! What is really great about the event billed Paris Beer Week is that it runs from 24 May thru 11 June. Plenty of time to sample, sample, sample, sober up and then do it all over again.

And if you’re looking for stuff to do in between beers, here are some ideas for May and for June.

Miscellaneous art news around Europe 2014

From London Independent – Matisse at the Tate Modern thru early September 2014. More Matisse at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris and a Matisse trail in Collioure in French Languedoc (aka French Catalunya). This last one sounds intriguing – see info at the bottom of the link.

All these from Dutch News – a missing Van Gogh is recovered in Spain. The Rijksmuseum’s plans for expansion announced. Medieval gold and silver coins found in Utrecht on the site of excavation for a new museum (perfect spot!). More looted Nazi art may have turned up in, among other places, the Rijksmuseum (oops!). And finally, a telescope from the early 17th century has been dug up in Delft.

Rembrandt’s largest painting is back at the Rijksmuseum.

From France 24 – mark your September 2014 calendars for the reopening of the Picasso museum in Paris after a five year reno job.

Solo travel in Paris – from the NY Times

From the NY Times. Solo in Paris – makes me want to see the city again; it’s been more than ten years and never for more than two days. Paris demands much more time than that! The article is a lengthy one, but the subject can’t be summed up in just a few paragraphs and, I might argue, there is much more to take in on any given day when you’re on your own.

Duck and Waffle in London and some rums to try

From London Independent.

A 24-hour restau on the 40th floor of Heron Tower, Bishopsgate, the Duck & Waffle is open all day and has amazing food. I probably would not have bothered posting this, but the name is curious, dontcha think? Maybe next time I’ll check it out and see if the food measures up.

On a tipsier note, an interesting list of ten top rums. I’ve heard of a couple of them, but not tried any. Not much of a rum drinker any more. Still, it’s too bad that my college (ssshh!) fave is no longer around – a New England brand known as Caldwell’s Old Newburyport. [Note – there is another rum called Folly Cove from a distillery in Gloucester, MA that is supposedly a close match]. Thankfully, my last bottle of Caldwell’s is OK, even if it has spent more than 20 years in the bottle in my liquor cabinet. And there’s also the half bottle of Gosling’s Black Seal rum from Bermuda. Good stuff for pickling fruitcake!

Breakfast of duck, waffles AND rum? Hmmm.

Alfresco dining in Grešna Gorica, Croatia

The final adventure of my Slovenia/Croatia tour a couple of years ago was dinner at Grešna Gorica, a Croatian “agriturismo” in the Zagorje region. After a visit to Kumrovec, Tito’s restored home town (see previous post), our bus took a small group of us through wine country,

Croatia Zagorje countryside

past the ancient hill castle of Veliki Tabor

Veliki Tabor castle

and wound its way up the slopes to this small farmhouse restaurant. Sunset was approaching, so the air, already cooling, got cooler. Still, I was not about to eat indoors and, luckily for me, I didn’t have to eat alone. The fare was typical Slavic comfort food – a big plate of duck and veal accompanied by buttery noodles, a salad of cabbage, lettuce and tomatoes. Bread, vegetables. Staropramen (Czech) beer for me – why I didn’t go for the local wine I can’t recall. Strudel for dessert. Very satisfying.

Grešna Gorica

Can’t remember why I didn’t get any photos of the table or the food. Check the link above for more photos, including the outdoor picnic tables beneath their protective canopy of drying corn cobs and the stunning view of the valley in the distance.

Roma restau opens in Slovenia

From France 24.

A new coffeehouse featuring Roma (aka “gypsy”) food has opened in Maribor, in northeast Slovenia. Their motto is enticing – “Come hungry and with an open heart”.

Exterior of the Romani Kafenava (Roma coffeeshop) is pictured in Maribor, north-eastern Slovenia, on April 11, 2014 photo by Jure Makovec on Yahoo, so you’ll recognize the place. You should go!

Here’s the menu with pictures but the English link is apparently not up yet. Dober tek! (that’s Slovenian for bon appetit, in case you were wondering).

Side note – I visited Maribor in 2012, when it was named one of that year’s two European Capitals of Culture. Most of the events for that celebration had already come and gone, but it was an interesting introduction to a part of the world most folks, especially in the US, know nothing about. I really should finish up my blog post about Maribor. And now there’s a reason to go back, perhaps as a day out from Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, an energetic college town in the center of the country and one of my favorite Slovenian destinations.

A hunt for giant Easter eggs in New York

NYC is currently running a city-wide Easter egg hunt. I stumbled on part of it recently when in Manhattan for the Tartan Day parade (still working on this blog post). After the parade, I went to Rockefeller Plaza to people-watch. The promenade walkway between Fifth Avenue and the main Plaza where the Christmas tree lives at holiday time is often spiffed up with art installations and this time, the raised flower beds,

tulips in NY

bursting with new tulips, were flanked by a row of oversized eggs on either side. Who knew? It reminded me of Cow Parade – a blank shape given to various artists to be decorated however they wished, put on display and then auctioned off for charity. Cow Parade cows have gone grazing all over the globe – I’ve seen them at Keukenhof and I even saw some in Bratislava, Slovakia about ten years ago. This egg thing is turning into the same sort of worldwide art happening. What fun!

Here are a handful of the eggs at Rockefeller Plaza. I apologize for the quality – some of the eggs were inside Plexiglas boxes, making for some irritating reflections. The labels are mine, though the artists did give them titles. I just didn’t bother looking (tsk)…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’m just glad I got to see these “Faberge” labeled eggs on a day when the area wasn’t too crowded. The day was gorgeous, breezy and slightly warm (skaters on the still-open ice rink were gliding around without coats).

There was even a Delft-style egg inside Grand Central Terminal near the entrance to the Market.

If you’re going hunting, be aware that there are some 275 eggs on display, mostly in Manhattan, so this smart-phone scavenger hunt could take a while if you want to “collect them all”, as they say (here’s a map to save you time; clicking on a number will bring up an image of that egg).

Having seen an exhibition of real Faberge eggs in London back in 1994 at the Victoria & Albert museum (another trip where I brought Dad along), it seems using that name for this bunch of modern sculptures is slightly cheeky, but maybe that’s just me.

Happy hunting and happy Easter!

London Tube closures Easter weekend 18-21 April 2014

Here’s is info on the Tube work for this weekend. The “weekend” is an extended one for works issues – Thursday thru Monday, since it’s Easter weekend. How civilized to have a holiday weekend that lasts more than just two and a half or three days!!

I’ve made a personal decision regarding the bike info. I’ll provide a link for the blue bikes, but won’t spell out the disruptions here. I truly believe that cycling in places like London (and New York and most other US cities) is a very dangerous activity, given the lack of safe, necessary infrastructure. If your opinion differs, go to the cycle link for the latest skinny… and WEAR YOUR HELMET!!

Embankment partial closure continues through early November and changes to Covent Garden thru mid-November. See below.

Bakerloo line – Sunday only – Willesden Junction to Harrow and Wealdstone.

District line – closure begins late on Thursday (8.30 or 9 pm) and runs thru Monday – Turnham Green to Ealing Broadway. Note that Piccadilly trains will stop at Turnham Green during this time.

Piccadilly line – closure begins late on Thursday (8.30 or 9 pm) and runs thru Monday – Acton Town to Uxbridge. Trains will stop at Turnham Green this weekend.

Jubilee line – Friday thru Monday – Waterloo to Finchley Road

DLR – Bow Church to Stratford is shut for the week from Friday the 18th thru the 25th.

London Overground – Friday thru Monday – Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction; Sunday only – Queen’s Park to Watford Junction.

Long term change concerning Embankment station – Bakerloo and Northern line trains not stopping from Wednesday 8 January until early November 2014 due to replacement of four escalators.

Long term change for Covent Garden station (this will confuse the tourists!) – Exit only until mid-November. Also, on Saturdays and Sundays, westbound trains not stopping.
This is to replace two lifts (elevators).

Bus diversion – From 22:00 on Saturday until 06:00 on Sunday, buses will be on diversion while Fleet Street is temporarily closed between Chancery Lane and Fetter Lane, due to a religious celebration in the area.

Roadway bottlenecks
Central London – From 22:00 on Saturday until 06:00 on Sunday, Fleet Street will be temporarily closed between Chancery Lane and Fetter Lane, due to a religious celebration in the area. Moorgate – From 07:00 on Saturday until 18:00 on Thursday 24 April, Moorgate (A501) will be closed southbound at the junction of South Place and London Wall. This is to allow for gas mains work on behalf of the National Grid. Twickenham – On Saturday, from 13:00 until 18:00, Chertsey Road (A316) and all roads around, and leading to, Twickenham Stadium, are expected to be busy due to an event. West London – From 23:00 on Saturday until 10:00 on Sunday, Westway (A40) will be closed between Wood Lane and Marylebone flyover due to road maintenance work. South London area – On Sunday, from 08:00 until 12:00, an abnormal load will travel under police escort from the M23, via the A23 and the A205 South Circular Road to the Herne Hill area. During this time roads in the vicinity may be busy.

Roads in the Haymarket area will be a headache until Feb 2015 due to a revolving circus of road improvements.

Major art exhibit planned for Prague Castle in 2015

From Prague Post.

A major art exhibition of Titian’s works is being planned for Prague Castle. It’s more than a year away, but if Prague is on your list, keep this event in mind, maybe even do as I do – build a trip around the event and look for other special stuff to fill the other days!

From France 24 – A British museum exhibit on Vikings through late June.

From Oxford Mail.

A bike route between Oxford and Cambridge. Holy subfusc, Batman!

And another route to be added from Oxford to Worcester by paralleling the rail line.

A cozy harborside restaurant in Reykjavik

When I’m traveling, most of my meals (aside from breakfast which is usually included in the cost of the room) consist of sandwiches and snacks either in my room or on the go. At least once per trip, I splurge on a proper dinner out. When I was in Reykjavik in January, this treat took the form of a lovely fish dinner at Hofnin, a small restaurant in the harbor area and only a five minute walk from my hotel.

A big pot of mussels (wild caught) for starters, delicate Arctic char (possibly farmed) as an entree with some lovely white wine and some of the best potatoes I’ve ever had – all crusty and slightly salty and not too starchy. Chocolate mousse and a bit of cake for dessert and espresso to finish. A memorable meal in the coziest of settings.

Kelpies and other critters in New York

Two Saturdays in a row, I was in NYC and made a point both times to swing by Bryant Park to visit the Kelpies scale model sculptures. One day was rainy, the other sunny, which explains the different weather in the photos. If you look carefully, I added a circle to two photos in the slideshow to highlight a metal stick figure at the base of one of the Kelpies. He shows the scale of the full-sized sculptures in Scotland. They are HUGE! I wonder if they have names? Publicity photos of Andy Scott, the sculptor, show him holding a pair of draft horses named Duke and Baron; flesh or metal, they’re magnificent.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I also got some decent shots of Patience and Fortitude, the two stone lions flanking the entrance to the New York Public Library’s main branch, which sits at the Fifth Avenue end of Bryant Park. Nice kitties!

London Tube closures weekend of 12-13 April 2014

This Sunday is the London Marathon, which likely explains why pretty much the entire Tube system will be up and running. There are, however, changes to the bus schedules in places, as well as road congestion. Click on the link above for more detailed info on road closures and bus schedule changes.

The following docking stations (Boris/Barclays bikes) are also out of service this weekend:

  • Christopher Street (due to construction works in the area)
  • Holborn Circus (road safety improvements by Westminster City Council)
  • Stonecutter Street (to enable tree removal in the vicinity)
  • Wansey Street (due to works by Southwark and Westminster City Councils)
  • Victoria Embankment (no longer available due to site development work)

Here’s is info on the Tube work for this weekend.

Embankment partial closure continues through early November and changes to Covent Garden thru mid-November.

Northern line – Archway to High Barnet/Mill Hill East

London Overground – Sunday only – Camden Road to Richmond and Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction starts running late – after 12.30 pm.

Central and East London roadway bottlenecks – On Sunday, from 07:00 until 19:00 significant road closures will be in place for the London Marathon. Notable road closures include Rotherhithe Tunnel, Tower Bridge, Southwark Bridge, Westminster Bridge as well as all approaches to Thames Street, Tower Hill and Victoria Embankment.

Roads in the Haymarket area will be a headache until Feb 2015 due to a revolving circus of road improvements.

Keflavik’s Rainbow and an egg

There are two large outdoor sculptures at Keflavik airport in Iceland. They stand next to the terminal building, so are unmissable whether coming to the airport or heading out towards Reykjavik.

The Rainbow is the work of Rúrí, an Icelandic artist and was installed in 1991 and manages to look cheerful even on days when the weather is less than sparkly.

Keflavik rainbow

Keflavik rainbow

The other piece always confuses me. The title is Jet Nest and the curved tongue is supposedly the tip of a jet wing hatching from an egg which sits atop a pile of typically Icelandic volcanic rock. Yet, every time I see it, I think either ‘gooseberry’ or, in a more aeronautical vein, the nose of the old Concorde. I wonder if anyone has said similar to artist Magnús Tómasson? The installation date is not noted, but it was in place in 2002 when I made my first trip to Iceland along with Dad.

Jet Nest / gooseberry

Jet Nest / gooseberry

I really need to re-educate my brain about this since they don’t grow gooseberries in Iceland.

Art awaits in Paris for spring 2014

From France 24 – a photo exhibit of images of everyday Paris is on through late May 2014 at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (aka MEP).

Received in a Eurostar email –

La Nuit Aux Invalides, a nighttime video spectacle projected onto Les Invalides (I wonder if Napoleon is turning in his elaborate, casket-within-a-casket-within-a… well, you know). This nocturnal light show runs through late May 2014.

A Van Gogh exhibit at the Musée d’Orsay runs through early July 2014.

Assorted crumbs from the UK

OK, OK, so some of these have absolutely nothing to do with travel. But it’s my blog and these little items tickled my fancy (and Lord knows I need my fancy tickled as often as possible!)

From the London Independent.

Ten yummy crunchy potato crisps (chips). Add to these the really good rosemary flavored ones I found in a convenience store in Iceland – and I actually hate rosemary!!

Ten of the best hot cross buns, just in time for Easter (March 23 or April 20, depending).

And let’s not forget CHOCOLATE! A selection of 10 Easter chocolate eggs. The Hotel Chocolat looks divine (dark is the only true chocolate for me), but the variety pack from Marks & Sparks might do in a pinch.

From Oxford Mail.

I didn’t know the term ‘greasy spoon’ was used in the UK, but there’s just such a place in Oxford. And if that label grosses you out, take your breakfast at Brown’s on the Woodstock Road.

London Tube closures weekend of 5-6 April 2014

TfL is getting fancy – weekly disruption notices now include information beyond just the Tube lines such as roads and those blue hire bikes (do I have to advertise the Barclays label??). Here’s the list of the Tube work for this weekend.  Embankment partial closure continues through early November and changes to Covent Garden thru mid-November.

Central line – Marble Arch to Liverpool Street

Metropolitan line – Wembley Park to Northwood/Uxbridge

Northern line – Camden Town to Edgware

Piccadilly line – South Harrow to Uxbridge (this will NOT affect service to Heathrow)

DLR – beginning 23.00 Saturday thru Sunday – Bow Church to Stratford

London Overground – Sunday only – Camden Road to Richmond and Shepherd’s Bush to Willesden Junction.

Southall buses  – Sunday, from about 9:00 until 19:00, will be diverted due to a religious procession.

Roadway bottlenecks include the Haymarket area due to improvement works. lane closures from 08:00 on Saturday until 18:00 on Sunday on Buckingham Palace Road at the junction with Grosvenor Gardens. A week of lane restrictions and banned turns from 06:30 on Sunday until 23:59 on Sunday 13 April on Upper Richmond Road, at the junction of Sheen Lane. As mentioned in the Tube updates, Southall will be a headache for drivers on Sunday, from 09:00 until 18:00 at Havelock Road, Park Avenue, King Street, South Road, High Street, Uxbridge Road, Green Drive and Avenue Park due to that religious procession. Finally, on Sunday – Putney, Hammersmith and Chiswick Bridges will be busier than usual from 15:00 until 19:00 due to an event on the River Thames.

And, if you were thinking you’d save some headache by grabbing a Boris-bike, you’re mostly OK except for these bits – Bruton Street docking station is partially suspended until the end of the year due to building work in the area. Holborn Circus docking station is out of service while Westminster City Council carries out road safety improvements. Wansey Street and Waterloo Place docking stations are also out of service due to building and road works on behalf of Southwark and Westminster City Councils. Victoria Embankment docking station is no longer available due to site development work.

Personally, I think London is too risky for any bike riders but the most savvy of locals and perhaps not even safe enough for them! When the bike lanes and signals in London are laid out like Copenhagen’s or Amsterdam’s. maybe it’ll be worth a rethink. In the meantime, make mine the Tube or a black cab (well, be careful with cabs this weekend – see the road closure info above) or plain old travel-by-foot.

Keukenhof 2014 is open for business

The best spring garden show in the world, Keukenhof, has just opened in Lisse, Netherlands and runs through mid-May. If you’ve never been and you love flowers and gardens and springtime, you’ll love this annual event.

Keukenhof is turning into my most blogged-about topic, aside from the London Tube closures (which I post mostly to keep up the illusion that I need to know because I might just go to London soon). If you’ve ever been to this extravagant Dutch festival, it makes perfect sense.

This sprawling outdoor garden has a fantastic setting with huge old trees anchoring the panoramas while providing some protection from the wind. The beds are laid out in all sorts of configurations, containing both new and old varieties. Every hue imaginable is here and not just in tulips, though there are more varieties of them than other types of plants; safe to say that if perennial flowers are a plant’s main product, it’s on display at Keukenhof. Tiny cottages are placed all over the grounds, allowing visitors to order some of the bulbs for delivery in time for the next year’s planting. Unfortunately, not every variety is available for purchase and, even more unfortunately, Americans can only buy bulbs marked inspected for import to the USA – which limits the selection even more. Oh well.

In addition to the vast outdoor displays, both naturalized and formal, there are indoor exhibits; tidy bowls and pots of color dot the paths and brighten up the eating areas and bulb-ordering kiosks. All kinds of outdoor art are scattered around this sprawling park of lawns, paths, trees and flower beds all anchored by the central pond and the beds are constantly renewed; fading plants are dug up and replaced with masses of bulbs just about to pop. The photos are from my visit to Keukenhof last year. It should push this most glorious of outdoor flower festivals onto your bucket list if it isn’t already there and, if it is, move it closer to the top!

The slide show is a bit long and I could probably have trimmed the number of images, but this way you can experience just how over-the-top this spring celebration feels. You should go!

WWI unexploded shell goes off near Ypres, Belgium

From several sources a couple of weeks ago.

Unexploded munitions from both World Wars lurk, barely buried, particularly in northern regions of Europe. Sadly, this is not a rare occurrence even a century after that first conflict.

The reason I bring attention to this recent incident is simply that I visited Ypres (Ieper) in 2009 for the triennial Cat Festival. This explosion occurred at a construction site, so I’m assuming it was at least a little distance away from the old town center – I haven’t been able to find out where along the Ypres Canal this happened. The other reason this deserves to be highlighted is that, with 2014 the beginning of the centennial observation of WWI, there may be lots more people touring battle sites; the war’s death toll was obscene enough; we don’t want to add to it.

When I traveled to Croatia a couple of years ago, guidebooks pointed out that hiking away from marked paths could turn deadly because there are still areas of that country which have not been cleared of land mines laid during their war in the early 1990s. The thought that bombs, grenades and other nasty war materiel is still lying around, LIVE, one hundred years after they were dropped, is sickening. The statistics quoted in the first link above, stating how many tons of this potentially fatal garbage are discovered and handled each year in Belgium, are staggering.

Best to stick to heavily populated parts of these towns (read some of the comments in this link) when you go and use reputable guided tours of the battlefields. With live munitions still kicking around, it makes one wonder about re-enacting battles from these wars, doesn’t it?

Final note – if you’re looking for packaged tours for the WWII Normandy anniversary (2014 is the 70th), I can absolutely recommend Tours International!

London Tube closures weekend of 29-30 March 2014

TfL is getting fancy – this week’s notices include some bus and national rail information and even some heads-up stuff on roads and those blue hire bikes (do I have to advertise the Barclays label??). Here’s the list of the Tube work for this weekend.  Embankment partial closure continues through early November and changes to Covent Garden thru mid-November also noted below.

Bakerloo line – Sunday only – Queen’s Park to Harrow & Wealdstone

Jubilee line – 11 am opening on Sunday – Waterloo to Finchley Road

District line – Saturday only – West Kensington to Acton Town/Richmond; Sunday only West Kensington to Ealing Broadway/Richmond.

Piccadilly line – Hammersmith to Ealing Common (this may affect service to Heathrow)

DLR – beginning 23.00 Saturday thru Sunday – Bow Church to Stratford

London Overground – Saturday – Richmond to Willesden Junction. Sunday closures – Shepherd’s Bush to Willesden Junction, Richmond to Camden Town, Queen’s Park to Watford Junction, Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction.

National rail services by Southern Railway out of London Bridge will be disrupted thru 31 March.

Hounslow buses  – Sunday, from about 12:30 until 17:00, will be diverted or stop short of their normal destination due to a local event.

Road bottlenecks include Hounslow (the march that’s messing up the bus route), Wembley (the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy hoo-hah), as well as resurfacing work around Wandsworth and Finsbury Park.

And, if you were thinking you’d save some headache by grabbing a Boris-bike, you’re mostly OK except for these two bits – Islington Green docking station is part suspended until 18:00 on Wednesday 7 May due to construction work in the area. Bruton Street docking station is also part suspended until the end of the year due to building work in the area.
